In my pregnancy announcement post I mentioned that I did a lot of the nursery design before knowing Baby S was a boy. That of course means I relied heavily on gender neutral pieces – a decision rooted more in practicality of investing in pieces that would work for future babies (regardless of their gender).
Happy Sunday! Today marks 21 weeks! Over halfway there!
Did you catch our gender reveal video?! I can’t believe almost 9,000 of you have! We included the footage of when we actually found out which I am so glad Dan thought to grab his phone and record. I also love that he agreed to sit down and do the reveal video with me.
He’s not usually one to jump in front of a camera lens… but it’s so much more meaningful this way and will be amazing to look back on and show baby…
This was the first house I found online and fell in love with. It’s basically a larger, updated replica of our current house (look at that kitchen!) meaning we can just move all of our furniture in!
Or so I thought.
The first floor of this home is amazing. No changes needed except maybe changing some lighting. You’ll see…
The upstairs, however, needed a ton of work. It was a hodge podge of rooms including two extremely tiny “bedrooms,” an awkward addition with a lot of wasted space (not shown in this post), very uneven floors, and two hall bathrooms, one of which would need to be completely redone. Then when we went into the basement, even our realtor was nervous. Hah Foundation problems are never good.
So again, we will be passing on this. But I couldn’t get it out of my mind so it was helpful to go see and now know it won’t work.
So as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Dan and I were going to look at a 100-year-old property outside Chicago. Actually it used to be a dairy farm farmhouse and still sits on half an acre of land.
I have a few dream homes in my bucket list of places I’d like to live…
We’re currently living in one – a classic city brownstone. And the other bigs ones are also a traditional Colonial and a farmhouse! So when I found this listing online and saw it had a crazy long picket fence lining the street and giant oak trees on the property, I got excited and showed Dan.
Behold… here are the pictures from the farmhouse we looked at and my gagillion dollar renovation ideas to make it spectacular! 🙂
I really don’t have a super diverse wardrobe… I rely on a lot of the same pieces in a given year and reach for my favorites over and over again when getting dressed… whether it’s for the office or a work-from-home day, lazy Saturday at home, or going to a more formal gathering.
The following 10 pieces are part of my go-to essentials that I’ve found to be of a great quality and timeless design, and I highly recommend them all!
I have these in black suede and know a lot of you have already purchased them. Do you love them as much as I do?! So comfortable yet still look dressy even with the flat heel. And they instantly elevate any outfit. Even my go-to jeans and sweater! I just add a bright lip and I instantly looked like I kind of tried. And that’s good enough for me!
Happy 2018!! Hope you had a fun evening celebrating! We were veeeery low key over here. Dan’s sister and brother-in-law came over and we had a great evening catching up around the fire. But TODAY is our big day! Baby S’ gender reveal!
As I mentioned in the previous giveaway post, the original plan of finding out Baby S’ gender was to do a gender reveal box with my friend’s baby clothing store Monica + Andy.
Here is what actually happened…
Oh and if you watch the video, pretty please refrain from revealing the gender on Insta comments for at least a day or so!
As you know, I wasn’t exactly patient when it came to learning the gender of our first babe. Dan and I found out the gender of Baby Schmieder at the earliest possible date! We did the 10-week Harmony genetic testing that looks at the baby’s DNA which gives you the option of learning the gender.
Obviously I was going to do that. I’ve loved knowing the gender and couldn’t imagine not…
Now, if I had an ounce of patience in my body, the gender reveal plan was to do a gender reveal with the help of my friend Monica’s organic baby clothing shop Monica + Andy! They offer gender reveal boxes for anyone who wants to find out this way!
Last Christmas, I decided to start the tradition of gifting my nieces and nephews a new ornament every year so that by the time they’re all 18 they’ll have a nice personal collection of their own!
That idea led to the next idea of… “how about I make them each their own personalized ornament box with their name on it!”
Which then turned into a 20-hour project… multiple trips to the craft and art supply store and the Container Store. So maybe more than 20 hours. #worthit
Here’s what I did!
First, I found these ornament boxes from the Container Store. I figured the cardboard would be the easiest to get craft with.
Instagram is a treasure trove when it comes to finding new brands and products. (Actually, it’s how I did a lot of the planning for our destination wedding, using hashtags to search for local vendors!)
And it’s what I’ve been using to search out baby brands! There are so many amazing independent companies out there offering really special, unique, organic pieces, toys, and clothing options… I’m excited to start sharing them with you! (And registering for them personally!)
