The hardest decision to make with the nursery is the crib. The design of the room is pretty much done and I’m usually a VERY decisive person but I’m not 100% on the crib. I love them both so much!
I always thought I was going to get Option 2: the traditional crib. But the nursery design overall is quite traditional looking, and I actually really love the clean, crisp, simple look of Option 1 looks with everything else I chose, and I’m wondering if traditional is just a bit too much… especially once you add bedding.
And I really like the idea of NOT having a bed skirt. Although the carpet in the room isn’t my favorite so maybe the skirt is good to hide it… but it means more dust. There will be an area rug like we had with the office but you’ll still see the light carpet around the border of the room. Hmm tricky.
Help me decide!

Now I cannot help that Serena and Lily stylists chose to style both cribs in boy rooms so don’t read into the photos I’m showing! Hah Both options would of course be lovely in girl nurseries as well, like the image at the top of the post. I just think it’s helpful to see how the cribs look surrounded by textiles and color.
This is our nursery dresser which is final and already in the room! It’s less cream colored in person but either way I’m not worried about the whites matching perfectly.
I think I said before I started designing the nursery before we knew the gender so I’m almost certain all of the wooden furniture items are going to be white (also plan on getting a white wooden bookshelf), and I’m bringing color in with the glider, ottoman, side table, lamps, accents, bedding, art, pillow, rug, curtains, etc.
So do we think Crib 1 or Crib 2?

Option 1 for sure. It’s what we have in my daughter’s room and it’s been great. I love that it has no crib skirt. The price is on point and the toddler conversion kit is included. I think the more modern design goes better with your dresser and the black and white rug (unless you’re going with a different rug?).
Thanks for chiming in! 🙂 Very helpful! There will be a different rug for sure!
Option 1!! Avoid the crib skirt it’s a pain!
Option 2
Option 2
Option 1! I typically like Option 2 but I think Option 1 will work better with your dresser/changing table.
Option 1!!!! It is so clean and crisp! Also without a bed skirt your dogs could be those cute protective pups who lay under or around the baby’s crib while she/he naps. That is like the cutest thing ever.
Definitely Option #1! It would still work perfectly with a simple and classy nursery, but it would be a piece that stands out.
I love option 1 with your dresser choice!
Loving option 1 with the dresser you’ve chosen. I’m typically more of a traditional girl myself, but I like the clean lines and skirt-free bottom of the first crib.
No matter what you decide, it’ll look great (you have fab taste!). Looking forward to seeing the final look once the room is put together.
Honestly, I would go option 1 just to avoid the skirt! We have a skirt (this one and I think it’s gender neutral to work in either room – http://www.serenaandlily.com/macram%C3%A9-crib-skirt/white/55632.html#start=1) but anytime you change the crib sheet, you have to realign and tuck the skirt and it’s kind of a pain. Also, now that my son is on the lowest setting in the crib, the skirt is lower to the ground, which means you have to tuck a lot because it has enough skirt to work even on the highest setting (if that make sense…) I do love a good traditional crib though… you really can’t go wrong with either!
Both are great options – we actually have option #2 (I was so excited when I saw it here!). I love this one for the design too (definitely works for boy or girl). Love that we have space underneath for storage (I have storage cubes from IKEA to store baby clothing, etc. that I rotate through his dresser since we are super short on closet space. The only other thing I would mention, is being able to lower the mattress – we don’t have a climber but some have told me you could lower the mattress all the way to the floor if you were desperate. That said, my little guy just turned two so if he starts showing signs of climbing we’d likely just convert his crib with the toddler rail. Good luck – both are great options!
10000% Option 1. Granted we are biased as we have our 2 month old in it that one currently:) However, less is more as we recently realized. Bed skirt is one less thing to worry about fussing with when you have to change the crib sheets so often.
Option 1! So stylish and not too dated feeling.
One more thing about option 1. I assume, but everyone is different, you will keep the mattress several inches higher when Baby S is born so you are not bending down so far to pick him / her up. Therefore you can chose to do the flat bed skirt now, then as he / she gets older and you drop the mattress down to the level it’s at in the pic take away the skirt. In theory when Baby S is a newborn you will keep the mattress at the highest setting. Hope that makes sense!
Yes we have that crib (which is great by the way) and this is exactly what we did! We had the skirt when it was raised and then when we had to lower it around 8 months we got rid of it!
We did the exact same with Option 1. It’s also great that it converts into a toddler bed. Our nearly 2 1/2 year old still sleeps in and loves his!
Number one ?
Option 1! So simple and crisp!
I like Option 1 with the dresser. I think if the rest is more traditional then this will modernize it?
I saw option 2. Going with option 1 and the dresser would be more on the modern said. Option 1 is a good balance.
Option 1
Option 1! You can always make it more traditional with the type of bedding you decide to have.
I like option 1 but whichever one will convert easier and allow you better usage.
I’m obsessed with option 2 so pretty, as much as I love that one I think option 1 goes more with the dresser and your style. Either way you seriously can’t go wrong it’s going to be so pretty 🙂
Option number 2! I think it will tie in beautifully with the rest of the design!
1! I think it goes much better with the dresser and your overall vibe, especially if you are pairign it with other more traditional things
Option 1~
We have #1 (secondhand!) in a nice dark wood finish and I love it. Super high quality and definitely recommend. Our first son’s crib came from Newport Cottages, which is fun because it’s all customizable and have a good mix of design. It’s sold at Twinkle Twinkle Little One in Roscoe Village if you’re interested!
They are both great but I really think option 2 would look lovely with the dresser as both have a slight vintage inspired feel. Do you def have to do a bed skirt with it? If the rest of the accessories and items are simple and modern it will balance out the slightly more ornate feel of option 2.
Option 2 ahhh just so charming
Is there a reason you aren’t sharing gender yet? These posts are all getting so strange.
Traditional. My daughter has the headboard version of the traditional crib, and I promise it is very versatile!
I think crib 1 will look better with the beautiful dresser.
Option 1 or Option 2 without the bedskirt!
I like #1 – I think the crisp, straighter lines stylistically matches the dresser better than the traditional spindles on the second crib.
I vote for crib #1! We almost chose that crib but ended up going for the Babyletto Lolly. I like how simple and modern the first one is. 🙂
Option 2! I have always loved the more traditional look of your home and furnishings, but this one doesn’t look too cutesy or precious. It’s simple and streamlined and you can play the more classic features up or down with textiles and accessories. You could counteract the style with a more modern mobile above as well.
I know Option 1 is a popular style but it looks like a cage to me!
Option 1! Especially with your dresser.
Love option 1 🙂 can’t wait to see the final design
Option 1. No ifs ands or buts about it!
Option 1: Contemporary!
#1 – more modern!!
My daughter is due in a few weeks and I was certain that we would select #2 or a similar iron version.. but the more I designed the entire nursery.. it felt TOO traditional overall – very similar concern to you. We went with the marrow from Pottery Barn kids which is close to #1.
It balances out the room because I very much did not want too traditional, too pink 🙂 and did not want a crib skit.
Excess crib bedding started bothering me the more I looked on Pinterest because it seemed cluttered and all the reading I did said it could be a danger to baby too!
Whatever you decide will end up gorg 🙂
Option 1! We have it in our nursery, I did add a crib skirt, but can easily remove it!
I love them both, but I’d go with option 2 knowing the rest of the room has a more traditional look! 🙂
Oops! I meant to say I’d go with option 1 knowing the rest if the room has a more traditional look.
Option 1!!
Like already mentioned, when the crib is on the highest setting (which you will want!! It’s a pain to lean waaaaay over with a sleeping baby in your arms. 🙂 ) . . . You might want fabric between mattress and base.
Option 2. I’m not a “matchy-matchy” kind of girl, so I like how the traditional crib vibes with the dresser without looking like a showroom set. But that’s just me!
Option 2!!!
Option #2
At first I was thinking option 1 but after looking at them styled I like option 2 better. We had a bed skirt for a bit but when her mattress was low enough I took it off. I liked having 2 slightly different looks. It’s nice to have the option of the skirt if you decide to use one.
I like option 2! After seeing the cribs styled I liked that one better. And you have the option at least to have a crib skirt if you want one.
Option 1! We have the Scoot style by Babyletto (same brand as the S&L crib) that’s white with walnut wood trim and LOVE it. Several mom friends have said they wish they would have purchased a crib as low as ours. It’s SO much easier to get kids in and out of with the low railing. (Don’t worry, the mattress drops plenty low to avoid kiddos crawling out.) I also love how this style is gender friendly so while we currently have a daughter, the crib can easily be used if we have a boy.
I absolutely love option 1!
Can’t wait to see what the nursery ends up looking like 🙂
Option 1
We have option 1, so it gets my vote. It’s lasted through 2 babies, a girl and a boy. It’s held up pretty well too! Other than them chewing on the side ?
We also have an RH baby metal crib for my other son, and that thing is SOLID! it has held up beautifully, and no teeth marks! Congratulations ?
Option 1!! It goes great with the dresser and it looks like “you” to me. I love how you mix modern and traditional already in your home and this would be the perfect crib would be the perfect mix as well. Come the updates coming! Love it and so happy for you!
Option 2. You can never go wrong with a classic design.
Option 1 looks so 10 years ago.
Option 1! So cute & simple & versatile! Love!
