Design Files: How I’d Renovate a Bathroom Today

I look at real estate listings every single day. We got pre-approved a few months ago because we know house hunting is difficult and on the off-chance something came up we loved, we wanted to be able to act. We are in no hurry to move – after all Baby Boy is due in a month and a half! (Although this flea debacle definitely put an unsettled fire under my butt).

But all of that being said, we are very open to different options… for now we’re back to just looking in the city since I work downtown and a short commute with an itty bitty at home sounds best. But we’ve looked at both new construction (which is VERY appealing) and older condos that need some updates in the kitchen and baths areas.

Which of course gets my wheels spinning… WHAT would said kitchen and bathroom reno look like?!

We came across one really great opportunity that would be an investment property – we’d update both units, live on the top floor unit and rent the other out. And… crazy exciting news – we’re putting an offer in but it sounds like it will be a bidding war so we’re not holding our breath.

What’s amazing is the bathrooms have clawfoot tubs! A simple splash of paint and we’d have chic black clawfoot tubs… amazing. So I used that as the basis for this design.

The Before:

So it’s actually in good shape. Just dated. What we’d do:

  • change floor tile to an inexpensive penny tile
  • possibly add some subway tile up the walls halfway
  • change vanity/faucet
  • change mirror
  • change lighting
  • change hardware
  • keep the tub – paint outside of it black

Nothing major. Keep everything where it currently is. No moving plumbing. Purely cosmetic.
