As you may recall from the before tour, the stair runner in our home was in really bad shape. As soon as we looked at it, I knew it would have to be replaced while we lived here and our landlord wasn’t going to do it. It was going to be one of the projects we had to tackle if we signed the lease. Which we did.
The shoes arrived! No idea why it took them so much longer than the clothing… but here they are! Love them all. Going to be tough to decide what to keep (all of hem?!) and what to return (since I’m not a hoarder)…
NUDE SUEDE MULES (also shown above)
It’s official. I’m a mule addict. Finally added this suede taupey beauty to the mix. I’ve never met a mule I didn’t like – and they’re SO easy and stylish. (available in more colors) // Pair with these black jeans and this tie front top.
Let’s call this a lesson in looking past previous tenant’s belongings – for all of you who may be apartment or home hunting. We found photos of our place when it was available for rent years ago.
Three guys lived here before us. Of course I am going to decorate a bit differently.
In case you missed my insta story series from Friday night, here are pics of the goodies I bought that I arrived from the Nordstrom sale!
I’m wearing a size Medium in everything and I’m 5’6″ since some of you asked.
Also I’m wearing these tassel mules in every photo…
As of 12am PST, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is open to everyone! So if you didn’t have luck finding a coworker or aunt with a Nordstrom card to grant you early access, now is the time!
Here are 15 of the top clicked items that aren’t sold out yet – most have all sizes available and a lot are under $100! Happy shopping!
Once when I was trying to source home accents for an interior design client, she was having trouble choosing from the items I showed her and simply asked “well, what would you put in your home?” She said she always loved what I was doing in my own space, so anything I’d want in my home meant she’d like it too. That made it easy!
So that is how we moved forward with the rest of the project. And that is what I did here because… did you know the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ALSO has a big ole’ home decor section? Yea. Good stuff.
Here are 15 items mostly under $100–including cozy knit throws, staple neutral rugs like we have our in dining room and bedroom, framed art prints, marble boards–that I love so much, I’d put them in our own home, #schmiedskigreystone.

I often get asked advice on how to choose a sofa or which are my favorite sofa designs. Most recently I had two gals ask what their first investment should be when transitioning from college to their adult homes. My answer? A great sofa.
Behold: my 20 favorite sofas, including 4 that are under $1000.
20 probably sounds not helpful since there are so many to choose from, but odds are you already have a style, size, or budget in mind. This will just help narrow down the best options out there.
I know I know. All anyone is posting about is #OMGTHENORDSTROMANNIVERSARYSALE!
I wasn’t going to do anything because it seemed everyone had that taken care of. But after getting a few requests including the text from my sister “please send me the list of everything you’re buying!” I figured what the hey. Let’s put something cool together.
If you follow along on Instagram, you saw I sold my year-old black ladder back chairs – that I loved. I did so because we got a traditional farmhouse dining table, and the vibe was getting a bit too country house–a style I love but not right for this traditional urban greystone. Let me show you…
I’ve always worn a lot of black and white… it’s classic and easy and everything pairs with everything. I’ve also placed a lot of black and white around our home–art, bedding, dining chairs…the stripe pillows on our bed that ya’ll love so much (as do I!). Speaking of the striped pillows, they are my most favorite pattern: the bateau stripe, or French stripe. It’s thin black stripes interspersed with white spacing and I just don’t see it enough in home decor, but it’s a staple in the fashion world. I own several shirts in this classic pattern. We even included it in our Fashion Essentials for The Everygirl Handbook.
And I’m not sure about you, but I’ve sometimes struggled with wearing black in the summer… it almost seems too heavy or dark for the hot temps. People tend to favor navy, myself included. But this combo of black paired with white in light fabrics and slinky silhouettes makes it accessible even in warm summer months.
1. plunge swimsuit (best seller!) – ya’ll loved this
2. silk scarf – in your hair or tie it around your neck or bag
3. black white striped shirt – where it year-round, all day, er day
4. white wayfarer sunglasses – classic style in a color that pops against tanned skin
5. black crossover sandal – the perfect shoe for long days and lots of walking
6. white toothpick jeans – a summer staple
7. tassel earrings – on trend and always cute
8. stripe pillow indoor/outdoor – I have these on our outdoor sofa but they work inside too
9. silk cami – dressing up was never so easy
10. white panama hat – up your beach style 100x with this single accessory
11. black crossbody with tassel – I have the blush, use it every day, debating getting the black
12. white sandal – Instagram’s It Shoe
13. striped espadrilles – like a slipper you can wear outside and really cute
What are you go to colors for summer? Does it change season to season?
